Artist and photographer Bill Henson saved from display a number of full-frontal photographs depicting a 12-year-old boy's genitals.

It comes as Police yesterday announced they would not pursue charges against Mr Henson, whose work was seized during May in response to public complaints.

The art depicts nude teenage girls and boys, however the art community has vigorously denied that the photos constitute pornography.

Police said yesterday that they would have a difficult time trying to charge Mr Henson and were therefore dropping the investigation.

The Sydney art gallery will now return to displaying the images, however they will only be available by appointment only.

News Limited newspapers report that not all Mr Henson's photos had been revealed, including a number of full-frontal nude shots.

The photos are believed to depict a naked 12-year-old boy whose genitals are clearly visible.

The gallery says that the images were kept out of public view and were only available to view by those interested in buying.

It is believed these images were the main focus of police investigation.

Mr Henson said yesterday that he was "humbled" by the support afforded him.

"It has been profoundly humbling to witness the depth of support for my work in these past weeks," he said.

"Of course, I recognise that much of this support came from the desire of many people to voice their commitment to more general principles."

"It is reassuring to see existing laws, having been rigorously tested, still provide a framework in which debate and expression of ideas can occur."
